My Diary

Woman seen from behind, sitting at a desk with a laptop, overlooking a desert sunset

When I first decided to freeze my eggs, it never crossed my mind that I'd end up writing a blog about it.

Why would I?

I assumed I'd have a couple of appointments, do one or two rounds of treatment, collect 10 or more eggs, pop them in the freezer and get on with my life.

Simple!

I'd keep the whole thing between a few close friends and family members, and hopefully, one day, when Mr Right finally appeared, I'd have those eggs waiting for me.

If only it had been that straightforward!

Instead, I found myself navigating a world I knew very little about.

Doctors, clinics, blood tests, hormone injections, medical terminology, treatment protocols, legal restrictions, travel arrangements and more decisions than I ever imagined having to make.

And that's before we even get to the emotional side of it all!

I spent hours researching, reading, asking questions and trying to make sense of information that often seemed confusing, contradictory or simply impossible to find.

The more I learnt, the more I realised how little I'd known when I started.

And I began wondering how many other women were in exactly the same position.

Trying to make decisions about their fertility.

Trying to understand their options.

Trying to navigate treatment across different countries.

And feeling completely overwhelmed by it all.

So I decided to start writing things down.

Not because I'm a medical expert. I'm most definitely not!

But because I'm someone who's actually going through it.

Someone who's experienced the highs, the lows, the disappointments, the surprises and the occasional moments when all you can do is laugh at how ridiculous the whole situation has become.

This diary is my attempt to document that experience as honestly as possible.

The good days.

The bad days.

The things I've learnt.

The mistakes I've made.

And all those moments when I've wondered what on earth I've got myself into!

Some posts will be practical. Others will be emotional. And some will probably be a bit of both.

But they'll all be real.

I don't know exactly where this journey will take me, or whether it will end the way I've always hoped.

But I'm going to share it anyway.

Because perhaps somewhere out there is another woman sitting in front of her computer, staring at a blood test result, feeling completely lost and wondering what to do next.

And if reading my story makes her feel a little less alone, then that can only be a good thing.

So here goes. Welcome to my diary — the highs, the lows and everything in between.

And hopefully, one day, a happy ending.
